2c Reds With Cachets

Crosby added bold red raised print cachets to some of the 2 cent red covers of the late 1920s and early 1930s.  They are simple one line "FIRST DAY ISSUE" cachets with the city of cancellation added below.  I particularly like the cover for #657 due to the striking image on the back of the cover.  It is generally believed that Crosby added these cachets in the mid to late 1930s to gain additional revenue for covers that he had previously serviced uncacheted...but which were simply sitting in his inventory unpurchased.  I would be happy to hear from anyone with definitive information on this subject.
